Blackjack is among the most popular card games today because of the simplicity of the game. Compared to poker in which a player makes complex, strategic moves to confuse and delude his opponents, playing blackjack properly means making precise decisions with no turning back. The objective of blackjack is to accumulate cards that have equivalent points. The player must collect enough points to reach 21, without going over this number. The Jacks, Queens and Kings give 10 points each; while aces are worth 1 or 11, whichever is preferable to the player. The other cards values are the same as their given names (e.g. ten of hearts etc.).
A player goes head to head versus the House. In the instance of a tie, no one wins and the game is considered a push. An ace and a ten (ideal Blackjack cards) on the first two cards a player receives is an automatic player win at 1.5 to 1, unless the house ties. A player may stand at any time.
Losing at blackjack means your cards’ values go over 21. If no one gets the exact value of 21, the one with the closest value to 21 wins. In blackjack, the table seats are for approximately 6 players. Six or eight decks of cards are shuffled together by the dealer and placed in a card dispenser.
Betting at Blackjack means a players must place a wager before receiving cards.
A player is given two cards, faced up, while the dealer gets one card faced up, one faced down. With one of the house cards clearly visible, each player in turn, either stays (comfortable with their card’s value) or takes more cards to try and get closer to 21 (risking).
When there are more than one players, the dealer waits for their decisions and turns up the card that was faced down. The rules state that when the dealer has 17 or higher value in his cards, the dealer must stay, while if he has 16 or lower the dealer must draw.
